Are cabins pre-treated?
All our cabins are delivered untreated. It is important that the
cabins are installed before being treated because any water based
treatment will potentially cause the logs to swell, which will prevent
a perfect fit.
We recommend treating the outside within two weeks of installation.
The inside can be treated and silicone can be applied to the outside
joints for extra protection if desired.
Will I need to get planning permission for my cabin?
Planning permission is not normally requires for our smaller cabins
providing it is 5 metres away from the main property, does not take
up more than 50% of your garden area (including other greenhouses/sheds)
and is under 4 metres in height.
However, if you are in any doubt or live in a conservation area,
we always advise you to check with your local authority or visit
www.planning.odpm.gov.uk
for further information.
What base will I need for my cabin?
We always recommend a 6 inch reinforced concrete base.
Can I change the internal layout of the cabin?
No. Generally, the internal walls are designed to support the roof
so by changing the layout, it may effect the stability of the building.
Can I add in extra doors and windows?
Yes, it is possible to add in extra windows and doors into your
log cabin.
How long will I have to wait for delivery?
For our standard Lillevilla cabin range, two weeks is the normal
lead-time.
Do you offer an installation service?
We have a team of friendly, experienced builders available to install
your cabin or assist you with the build.
Are they easy to assemble if I decide to install the cabin
myself?
All our cabins are based on an interlocking system, which makes
them easy to assemble. The cabin comes with an instruction manual
and labelled logs to make the installation process easier. An added
advantage of buying your log cabin from Buy Direct Retail is that
we are on hand 7 days a week to answer any queries you have with
regards to construction. You can even make an appointment with our
construction manager who will be happy to advise you on building
your own log cabin.
Can the cabins be insulated?
Yes. Lillevilla cabins have excellent insulation properties but
the option to insulate the roof and floor is available. We can supply
and fit roof and floor insulation or just supply the materials if
you are installing the cabin yourself. Wall insulation is not necessary,
especially for the mild UK climate. However, for the larger cabins
with 70mm wall logs and above, wall insulation packs are available.
Can I put a hot tub in my cabin?
Absolutely. In our opinion, it’s the best place for a hot
tub! It is important that the cabin has ample ventilation when housing
a hot tub or spa.
