Planning Requirements For Your Log Cabin Installation

Planning Permission is not normally required for our smaller cabins in the following circumstances:

  • Where cabin is under 4 metres high (3 metres in some areas)
  • Is at least 5 metres away from the rear wall of your property and does not take up more than 50% of your garden area (including other greenhouses/sheds)
  • Has a floor area of less than 30 sq. metres

For our larger cottages such as the Lillevilla 110 and the lodge house, planning permission will be required as their height exceeds 4 metres.

If you are on a corner plot, the cabin cannot go beyond the line of the house without planning permission. If you live in a conservation area, a listed building or an area of outstanding beauty please contact your local planning office.

A significant number of planning authorities regard timber buildings as having a low impact on the environment and consequently are regarded as being more acceptable than a permanent concrete building.

We would always advise you to check with your local planning authority regardless of the cabin size.
